The Lighthouse is 30ft tall and constructed of a concrete base with a black metal pyramid, topped with a 4th order Fresnel lens which goes the lighthouse a range of 16 nautical miles/18 miles.

In the English Civil Wars it was used as a sanctuary for royalists. During the Monmouth rebellion in 1685 the Englsih Army used the church as an outpost. By 1790 the church was in a state of disrepair and was partially repaired and remodelled with the west tower, south porch and a 3 bay nave added, however the restoration project ran out of money and was left unfinished.
